East China’s Jiangsu province has taken practical measures since the start of this year to use modern methods to control pollution sources, improve the quality of the ecological environment, explore new models for targeted pollution control so as to promote continuous improvement of the ecological environment in Jiangsu.
Taizhou has installed integrated automatic water quality monitoring stations on several tributaries leading to the Yangtze River. Compared with traditional methods, the integrated water quality automatic monitoring station requires less investment and occupies less land but can ensure continuous monitoring on water quality 24 hours a day.

The real-time monitoring data is transmitted to the Yangtze River protection big data platform as soon as possible, effectively improving the water environment risk early warning capability.
In order to effectively control the discharge of pollutants into the river from the source, Taizhou launched the "Healthy Yangtze River Taizhou Action" in 2019, using satellite remote sensing and other scientific and technological means to accurately locate the sewage outlets, integrating the resources of 18 departments to establish a big data platform, and promote the governance and long-term control of sewage outlets.
Unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned ships conduct regular inspections every day. Thousands of sewage outlets of various types along the Yangtze River are affixed with a unified QR code.
The 5G AI high-definition camera installed on the 40-meter iron tower constructs the electronic fence of the water source protection area.
The latest data show that the water quality of the tributaries of the Taizhou section of the Yangtze River has improved by 26 percentage points, and the water quality has remained Class II level throughout the year.
Taizhou’s experience in controlling river pollution at the source was hailed by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and extended to other river pollution control efforts in the Taihu Lake Basin in Jiangsu.

In the meantime, Jiangsu promulgated the emission rights mortgage loan management measures in December last year.
A textile printing and dyeing company in Shengze town of Wujiang district, Suzhou city, filed an application with Suzhou Ecological Environment Bureau for the mortgage registration of pollution discharge rights.
After going through the formalities, a local bank immediately issued to the company a combined loan of 12 million yuan in the mortgage of emission rights.

Jiangsu is continuing to make efforts to reduce pollution and carbon emissions, control pollution at the source, launch the first round of special law enforcement action on air pollution, cultivate leading green enterprises in key industries such as steel, petrochemical, printing and dyeing, and promote the use of clean energy to transform production processes.
