East China’s Jiangsu province has lowered its emergency response from first-level to second level after having reported no new coronavirus cases for several days.

Jiangsu switched to the second-level response on Tuesday after reporting no new cases for the fifth day in a row. The province has so far registered 631 confirmed cases and no death.

The provincial government has asked regional governments and local enterprises to formulate differentiated epidemic prevention and control strategies based on their own conditions, strengthen the services for enterprises, provide policy support and resume production in an orderly so as to minimize the impact of the epidemic on the economy.

Experts say people should still be on alert though Jiangsu has lowered the epidemic response level as the development of the epidemic is uncertain and complex, making it difficult to judge whether a secondary infection will come.

Since late January, all provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland have activated top-level emergency responses to the novel coronavirus or COVID-19, canceling mass events, closing scenic attractions and suspending long-distance buses.

The National Health Commission said last Friday that the epidemic has shown a positive trend on the Chinese mainland, indicating that the outbreak is under control.
