The rainy season has begun from south to north in the areas to the south of the Huaihe River, making the province experience the once-in-a-year season of wet days about two weeks, weather forecasters said on Friday.
More rainfall was reported in the areas to the south of the Huaihe River as Suzhou became the first city in Jiangsu to experience the plum rain season last Wednesday, followed by Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou and Nantong.
Huai’an and Yancheng are expected to enter the rainy season in coming days.
The annual plum rain season starts in Jiangsu around June 18 and 20 but a little bit late this year.
The rainy season is expected to end on July 10, a bit earlier than usual.
The plum rain season is typically featured with successive rainfalls, which in turn will lead to higher humidity levels during the period.
The plum rain season is defined as having started when the weather over a five-day period includes at least four days of rain and three days of 22 degree-plus high temperatures.
