This week, Yangzhou Society Welfare Centre welcomes a lot of visitors. Two girls, who used to live here, come back from U.S. and visit their “family members” here. This place reminds them of many happy memories and old stories.
On June 20, a bus stopped outside the Welfare Centre and a tall girl with long hair took off from the bus. The staff and surrounding people looked at the girl and tried to figure out who she is. Then, someone said, “She is the tall girl!”. Her Chinese name is Yang Jiaorou, who was adopted by an American couple 14 years ago from here.
Jiaorou stayed a while in the yard and her mum was surprised by the great changes happened in Welfare Centre, that “Time flies, even for 14 years, but the change happened here is amazing!”. Later, the staff led them to look around the inside of the building, including the classroom, activity room and show room. The staff also gave more introduction on orphan adoption and policies. Jiaorou was very interested in the photo wall. After looking carefully, she finally found the pictures of herself and took some photos with the “Little Jiaorou”.
After the visit, the staff also prepared the special Chinese meal for them. Jiaorou likes Yangzhou fried rice and tofu noodles best, and she said that “Chinese restaurants are really popular in U.S. now, but the flavor becomes Americanized. Only China has the real flavor of Chinese food”.
On June 21, the Children Welfare Centre welcomes the Yang Rongxue’s family. 15 years ago, the little Rongxue was adopted by her American parents after living here for one year. Right now, she is a beautiful girl blooming with youth.
Rongxue is a senior in high school now. Her dream is to be an engineer, that “My brother and sister, they are doctor and lawyer. People in my family are excellent, and give me a lot of help for living and studying. I have to be excellent too!”.
Under the support of the staff, Rongxue and her family visited the Welfare Centre to feel the changes and find back the young Rongxue again. When she saw herself on the photo wall, she wrote the blessing and thankfulness. She will always remember her hometown and come back in the future.
